Humility

Blessed-are-they-who-seeThe more I live, the more I come to the conclusion that greatness and humility can’t be separated. In other words, I believe that in order for somebody to be great he/she needs to show a level of humility that allows the people around to enjoy the characteristic that make him o her great.

The danger with humility is that our society is so use to worship the opposite and to think that greatness and arrogance/pride go hand to hand that we usually don’t pay enough attention and we may miss the opportunity to learn from great and humble people that we have around us.

I told my kids once. please pay attention to P.B (B.F.), D.L., T.C. those guys exude greatness and what is most impressive they exude that greatness humbly.

God has blessed me throughout my life to be mentored by good people, who I consider my friends. These are people that excel in one or more disciplines of life but their caring, humble and loving heart make them simply GREAT.

Below are some ideas that could help us improve in this area. Read carefully and let me know your thoughts.

Note: Here are some of the GREAT people that come to my mind (this is not an exhaustive list). C.O.R., M.W.,S.W.,D.H.,A.L.,H.H.J.,R.T..M.F. R.A.,S.A. D.M., S.F.,B.C.,D.K. (you are welcome to ask for confirmation, jajaja)

HUMILITY LOOKS GOOD ON EVERYONE

James 4:6 (NIV)But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”1 Peter 5:5b–7 (ESV)Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

REFLECTION

Jesus is the King of Kings, yet He arrived as a humble servant. Humility is not thinking you are less, it is never forgetting the fact that it is Jesus who made you more. So, how do you become like Jesus? How do you develop a spirit of humility?

Humility is the byproduct of being with Jesus. Anyone who walks intimately with Him will not think more highly of himself than he should. To be loved by Jesus and invited into a relationship with Him, is all we need to right-size ourselves and to assume His gentleness and grace.

To be humble doesn’t mean you have to be weak. God has given you all you need to live confidently as His. The proud will never truly lift up God’s name in praise. Yet He raises the humble to new heights.
